Kidnapped

In the Septimus Heap Series, by Angie Sage, it explains how teenagers can relate to characters in the story by character change. In the series, Simon Heap kidnaps his adopted sister, Jenna Heap, who is the Princess-in-waiting (PIW). Simon's long lost brother Septimus goes to the Badlands, where Simon has Jenna, and Septimus tries to save her. Teenagers can relater to this because if a teenager gets kidnapped, someone you know will ultimately have a gut instinct to save you. That is what Septimus did when Simon kidnapped Jenna, even though everyone told Septimus that all Jenna was doing was going for a walk. In the Septimus Heap Series, young adults can connect to how characters change.

Teenagers can go from someone that everyone is afraid of to one of the most kindest people in the world. Simon Heap went from a life-threatening person to a calm, peaceful  person during the course of the Septimus Heap Series. He becomes a terrible person when his long-lost brother becomes Extra-Ordinary Apprentice to the Extra-Ordinary Wizard, Marcia Overstrand. Simon becomes angry because he was supposed to be the Apprentice not his brother, Septimus. When this happens, Simon starts his dark reign,. Teenagers can relate to this because if someone takes something that was promised to you, you get an initial reaction to take something that they love.

Teenagers can go from someone who doesn't have anyone in the world to someone everyone loves and cares for. Septimus Heap went from person without a family and no one to love him, to one of the most famous people in all of the land. Teenagers can relate to him because if a teenager is homeless or has no family the they can go to foster care and get adopted.That is sort of what Septimus did when he was enlisted in the Army. The odd part is that he was enlisted in the Army by the name Merrin Merridith. Also Septimus always puts his best foot forward in times of wrong. Teenagers can relate to this because if teenagers are determined to do something, most of the time they will do it.

Teenagers can go from someone no one knows to one of the most famous people in the land. Jenna Heap went from being lost in the woods to becoming the Queen of the land. Teenagers can relate to this because sometimes teenagers come from nothing to become one of the most famous people in the world. Also Jenna was lost, but luckily she didn't die in the freezing cold of the woods because her "father", Silas Heap, went for a walk in the woods, found her, and took her in as his own. Teenagers can relate to this because teenagers sometimes get lost in the world but hopefully someone wants them and takes them in.

Teenagers can really relate to the Septimus Heap Series. Whether it be getting kidnapped and taken away, or getting lost but someone finds you and takes you in as their own. Either way it is always a good idea to put your best foot forward even when something dangerous can happen.
